What is the difference between an Architect and a Building Designer?
In addition to being highly skilled designers, Architects are also professional problem-solvers. With a focus on creating an efficient, innovative and cost-effective, high quality design, Architects can provide a higher level of professional service than a design drafter.
The difference comes down to training, expertise, experience, and legislation.
When you hire an Architect you are protected by legislation ensuring your project will be completed with a degree of professionalism founded on a high level of skills, training, and industry standard.
An Architect is required to undertake rigorous, comprehensive, and ongoing training, including:
- University education encompassing both construction and design
- A mandatory commitment of two additional years of supervised practical experience followed by further Architectural Practice Examinations
- An ongoing commitment to compulsory Continuing Professional Development to maintain, update, and stay current with qualifications and Code compliance
- Adherence to the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Code of Conduct
By comparison, a Building Designer (also known as a Draftsperson) requires a TAFE qualification and two years’ practical experience.
Architects work independently of builders, which allows them to call for competitive tenders from different Contractors – potentially leading to significant cost savings on your project.
An architecturally designed home is a more valuable asset. Amidst the competitive real estate market, your home will stand out among standardized project homes.
Let us demonstrate our difference to you.
